Panic, Anxiety, and Stress Therapy

In-person therapy in parts of Middle Tennessee, including portions of Sumner and Davidson counties, and virtual therapy across Tennessee.

When your mind and body stay stuck in overdrive, even ordinary life can start to feel difficult. You may look functional on the outside while privately dealing with worry, dread, racing thoughts, tension, trouble sleeping, irritability, or the sense that you can never fully relax.

For some people, the main struggle is chronic stress. For others, it is anxiety that never quite lets up. For others, it is panic attacks that feel sudden, intense, and frightening. These experiences can overlap, but they are not always the same. Therapy works best when it is shaped around what is actually happening for you.

At Clearly Aware Psychotherapy, the goal is not to tell you to simply calm down. The goal is to help you understand the cycle you are in and begin responding to it in a different way.

Common signs
  • constant worry or overthinking

  • panic attacks or fear of another one

  • dread before work, conversations, travel, or decisions

  • muscle tension, fatigue, or poor sleep

  • restlessness, overwhelm, or shutting down under pressure

  • avoidance of places, situations, or responsibilities

Therapy may include
  • CBT for anxious thought patterns

  • mindfulness-based therapy for relating differently to fear and physical sensations

  • EMDR when anxiety or panic is connected to trauma

  • IFS-informed or parts work for inner conflict, pressure, and self-protection

  • grounding and nervous system regulation skills

Sometimes what looks like general anxiety is actually part of a more specific OCD pattern involving intrusive thoughts, checking, reassurance-seeking, or mental rituals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of therapy helps anxiety?

  • Many people benefit from CBT, mindfulness-based therapy, EMDR, trauma-informed therapy, or parts work, depending on what is driving the anxiety.

What is the difference between anxiety and panic?

  • Anxiety often feels more ongoing and anticipatory. Panic tends to come in intense surges that can feel sudden and overwhelming.

Can therapy help if I have been anxious for years?

  • Yes. Longstanding anxiety can become familiar, but that does not mean it cannot change.

You do not have to keep organizing your life around fear, overwhelm, or the next panic attack.
